In her new role, Dr. Cushing will work closely with the Chair and Clinical Vice Chairs in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine to implement department-wide initiatives in clinical pathology, anatomic pathology and hematopathology, as well as oversee faculty and trainee affairs for the Department. She will also lead projects to integrate and standardize the clinical laboratories and anatomic pathology across the Weill Cornell sphere hospitals. She will maintain her roles as Laboratory Director and Division Director of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Therapy at Weill Cornell. A national search has commenced to identify Dr. Cushing’s replacement as Vice Chair of Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Pathology.
Since joining the Weill Cornell faculty in 2006, Dr. Cushing has served in positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as Vice Chair of Laboratory Medicine and Director of the Clinical Laboratories since January 2020. Dr. Cushing has demonstrated success leading research and clinical initiatives (including leading the COVID-19 testing effort), recruiting and developing faculty members, building and overseeing laboratory operations, and collaborating with departmental and NYP leadership. She is a respected advocate for the Department of Pathology and has an important combination of skills and experience for the role of Executive Vice Chair.
