Assistant Director of Clinical Microbiology

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking an Assistant Director of Clinical Microbiology for the clinical microbiology service at NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP)/Weill Cornell Medical Center (WCMC) and Lower Manhattan Hospital (LMH). NYP/WCMC is an 862 bed tertiary care hospital and NYP/LMH is an 182 bed community hospital. Both serve a diverse patient population including adult and pediatric oncology, surgical, and transplant services. In addition, the clinical microbiology laboratory provides services at other hospitals in the NYP system and oversees a robust outreach testing program.

The clinical microbiology service in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is dynamic and has a long record of innovation, research, and scholarship. The clinical microbiology laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, and is beginning the laboratory automation journey. The laboratory delivers services in bacteriology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology and molecular diagnostics.

Clinical duties will include participation in medical director oversite of all areas of the clinical microbiology service, including assay development and implementation, and quality programs. The successful applicant with work closely with the Division of Infectious Diseases and other clinical services. Additional responsibilities will include education of infectious diseases fellows, pathology residents, medical students, and medical technologists. The individual will be expected to participate in clinical, translational, and/or basic science research.

Candidates must possess a M.D. degree and be board-certified in Clinical Pathology and board-certified or board-eligible in clinical microbiology and/or medical microbiology (ABMM or ABP-MM). Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

Assistant Professor Salary: $193,930-$255,976
Associate Professor Salary: $242,624-$309,688

The salary range listed is for full‐time employment not including bonuses, clinical incentive compensation, or benefits. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, specialty, training, and hospital/community needs.
